Welcome home 2021
Similar to my ‘timelessness’ project, welcome home reflects and comments on the effects of the Covid-19 lockdown, but this time focuses on inside the home rather then out. The project consists of two sculptural/intervention pieces. The first a black box inspired by Ernesto Neto’s ‘sopro’ exhibition, consists of a glue gun sculpture sat on top and a peephole inside of the box where another sculpture sits with a flickering orange light.
The other intervention inspired by Rebecca Horn’s ‘Spiriti di Madreperla’ Naples show, utilises the use of LED light strips inside of a metal cage to symbolize life. Both are used to symbolize the feeling of being trapped and the life that lies within the walls that hold them. Lighting and movement were very important in this project and truly created a saddened but tranquil mood. The lockdown was difficult for everyone but what felt like home before certainly didn’t feel like it afterwards and that’s what this project represents.
